How to Select the Best Grill for Your Cooking Style: Charcoal, Gas, Pellet or Electric Type

Choosing your cooking style is the first step when you plan to buy a new grill. There are different types of grills in the market each has some advantages and disadvantages. We have decided to present general information about four main grill types in the market. Here are the main types of grills:

Charcoal Grills

As its name implies, charcoal is used as fuel of the grill. Charcoal grills are less expensive than other types and since you can carry charcoal easily wherever you go, you don’t have the problem of gas or electric types. On the other hand, these grills need more time for a startup. The main trouble starts after grilling when you have to clean up and remove ashes from the grill. Altogether smoky grilled meat is what makes all these troubles a pleasant experience.

Gas Grills

These grills will use propane or natural gas as input fuel. Natural gas type grills are fed by natural gas plumbing, so gas is available whenever you want to grill. On the other hand, propane cylinders are used to fuel propane type grills. Each time you want to start grilling, you should pay attention to the gas storage so you don’t face gas shortage during grilling or you can buy an extra cylinder as a backup.

Generally, gas type grills will be fired up easily and in a flash. Unlike charcoal grills, cleanup is not a problem here. On the other hand, grilling on a gas grill is frustrating for those who like a smoky taste but some companies have considered smoke boxes embedded in their gas grills which can give a smoky taste to your meal but totally it cannot replace charcoal.

Electric Grills

No fire is needed in electric grills. Gas or charcoal are replaced by electricity and heat is produced by elements located below the grill grate. Unlike charcoal types, electric grills can be used both inside and outside. It should be noted that if you prefer a smoky taste rather than anything else, it’s not a good idea to buy an electric grill. But also don’t forget that you have much less problem with start-up and cleanup, full control on grill’s temperature by using control knobs and other advantages which make electric grills a good choice for you.

Pellet grills

Pellet grills have become popular nowadays. There is a hopper in which pellets are stored. Then the pellets are moved to a burn pot by using an auger. There is a hot rod inside the burn pot which is used to ignite the pellets. The wood pellets can give you different smoked flavors like mesquite, hickory, or oak. You can set the desired temperature and the grill itself controls the input amount of pellets to the burn pot. A fan is used to circulate smoke and heat for better cooking. You have also more trouble for cleanup since wood pellets are used so you have to clean the ashes after grilling. Altogether choosing the desired smoke taste is what you will experience by using pellet grills

These are the main grill types that you can find in the market. Each type has pros and cons, so you should consider different parameters and then choose a type that is more suitable for your home.
